- Steamboat Arabia Museum
Steamboat Arabia Museum
When the mighty Steamboat Arabia sank near Kansas City on September 5, 1856, she carried 200 tons of mystery cargo. Lost for 132 years, its recovery in 1988 was like finding the King Tut’s Tomb of the Missouri River. Remarkably preserved clothes, tools, guns, dishware and more. The discovery was truly a modern day treasure-hunting story at its best. The Arabia Steamboat Museum is a unique Kansas City attraction: a time capsule of life on the American frontier in the mid-nineteenth century. It is not your typical museum. Visitors have the one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience the everyday objects that made life possible for pioneers in the 1800s. It is the largest single collection of pre-Civil War artifacts in the world. Kansas City, Missouri

Steamboats.com
Steamboats are a vital living history in American life. Some paddle wheelers take passengers on overnight cruises, some do day cruises, others have been converted into hotels, restaurants, or museums. Still others are wrecks, buried in the mud. At one time there were thousands of paddle steamers transporting passengers and cargo on river systems around the world. Steamboats.com was created in 1998 to promote the study of steamboat history.

Steamship Historical Society of America
updated
The mission of the Steamship Historical Society of America is to record, preserve, and disseminate the history of engine-powered vessels. In 1935 seven steamship historians and collectors formed the Steamship Historical Society of America as a means of bringing together amateur and professional historians interested in the history and development of steam navigation, past and present. Today SSHSA stewards a collection of hundreds of thousands of images, artifacts, periodicals, artwork, official records, memorabilia, and ephemera archived in more than 100 collections and devoted exclusively to the history of engine-powered vessels, their passengers and crew. SSHSA also publishes the quarterly magazine PowerShips and has taken on the role of conservationist through our digital conservation project, the Image Porthole. Warwick, Rhode Island
