  • Gloucester Schooner Festival Gloucester Schooner Festival
For many years the City of Gloucester Massachusetts has proudly sponsored a large gathering of schooners for two days of racing, celebration and socializing. Gloucester has a long and grand history of schooner racing dating back to the International Fisherman's Races between Gloucester and Lunenburg NS, immortalized though the lens of of Morris Rosenfeld in 1922 with the victory the indomitable Bluenose over the Gertrude L. Thebaud. Taking place in the harbor and nearby waters of America’s oldest seaport, the Gloucester Schooner Festival honors the major role the fishing schooner has played in the heritage of Gloucester and the eastern seaboard. • The Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta The Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta
The first Provincetown Great Schooner Race was held in September 2002 as a gesture of good will towards the late Captain John Bennett of Provincetown and his Schooner Hindu, a local vessel. Mindful of the important role 19 th and 20 th Century schooners played in the maritime commerce of Provincetown the Race was expanded to become a Schooner Regatta with a mission to celebrate not only the importance of Grand Banks fishing Schooners in the Town's history but our fishing heritage and the wealth it left behind which includes the diversity of populations, cultures and creative expressions which have defined our rich and colorful past. Provincetown, Massachusetts.
