The Middle Harbour Amateur Sailing Club has raced centreboard dinghies from its premises at The Spit for over 50 years. Skiff sailing on Newcastle Harbour can be traced back to the early 1800s with the first organised Regatta being held in 1834. This regatta changed the port from a commercial waterway into a public festival and playground. The day was proclaimed as one of rest and friendly competition.
