The earliest records of land yachting on Brean sands appear round 1920, when locals sailed for fun, having made yachts from the remains of World War 1 aircraft. 70 years later the Brean Land Yachting

The British Land Speedsail Association (BLSA) was set up in 1986 to support the sport of Speedsailing in the UK. In 2004 Blokart Sailing was added to cover the new emerging sport. The British Powerboat Racing Club was formed in 2001 following the gala dinner held at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes celebrating the 40th running of the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes offshore powerboat race. The Cowes-Torquay launched offshore powerboat racing as a sport in Britain in 1961. Initially sponsored by the Daily Express newspaper, its success encouraged several countries in Europe and the Middle East to follow suit. Teaching young people how to Sail and be safe on the water. The Brixham Junior Sailing Club was originally formed in 1989 by a group of dedicated volunteer members of Brixham Yacht Club from a very small junior section, it then became a not for profit limited company in 2004 to assist with fund raising. Formed in 1972 Broadwater is an inland sailing club with coastal connections. More than 30 years after its formation, there are still some of the founder members around.
