Fleet 34 is a fleet at large consisting of members and associates spanning the shoreline from Niantic, CT to Westerly, RI. Some of our members hail from Ensign Fleet 57 at Thames Yacht Club, New London, or Ensign Fleet 73 at Niantic Bay Yacht Club. Other members belong to one of the many individual yacht clubs that are found along our shores. Races occur primarily on weekends in Fishers Island and Long Island Sounds and are hosted by the parent yacht clubs of our members. The Lake Candlewood Power Squadron offers Safe Boating Classes to the public. These classes have been tailored to be completed in one 8 hour day. These classes teach navigational aids, the rules of the road, how to anchor, different kinds of anchors, basic piloting, knots, docking, and basic seamanship. The Lake Candlewood Power Squadron also offers its members the use of Squadron Park. This is undoubtedly the best kept secret on the lake. This private, for members only sanctuary is some 1500 feet of lake frontage, boasting dockage for 12 boats, picnic tables, BBQ grills, a covered pavilion, beach and swim area. We are part of America's Boating Club™, the largest nonprofit boating organization in the country. Our home port is in New Haven, Connecticut, USPS: District 1. We are beyond boating with our dedication to safe boating through fellowship, education, and civic service. We are all about the practice and skills of pleasure boating, under sail, power, or paddle. Members and guests participate in membership meetings, social activities, on the water events, and classroom training.
