America's Boating Club Waukegan, also known as the Waukegan Sail and Power Squadron is a maritime community built For Boaters, By Boaters®. Our membership consists of people who love boating, including youngsters and old timers, neophytes and old salts, sailors, power boaters, loopers and circumnavigators. A few of us are even into padddling our boats. Most of our members live in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. We generally boat on Lake Michigan, but some of our members boat on smaller lakes, such as the Chain 'O Lakes or other regional lakes and rivers. A lot of our members keep their boats in harbors in Waukegan and Winthrop Harbor in Illinois, and Kenosha and Racine in Wisconsin. We provide many opportunities for social activities throughout the year, both on and off the water, including picnics, cruises and get-togethers. Sometimes we hold boating-related training sessions and feature guest speakers either dockside or at our general meetings. We also offer a variety of educational opportunities, including seminars and courses on a variety of subjects. Anchorage was formed in 1928 by a group of civilians who had mooring privileges at Great Lakes Naval Base. Anchorage membership and participation in Club events is open to all local harbor patrons. Carlyle Yacht Club is located on beautiful Carlyle Lake, in central Illinois. Carlyle Lake is the second largest lake in Illinois, behind Lake Michigan. Our sailing area is two miles wide and ten miles long. CYC is hosted by West Access Marina, and is a member of Yacht Clubs of America. Clinton Lake Sailing Association is located next to Clinton Lake Marina, 45 minutes west of Champaign-Urbana, 45 minutes south of Bloomington-Normal and 30 minutes north of Decatur. The club has a ramp, dock, pavilion with grill and fire pit, porta potty and dry sailing area. Sailors also can rent a slip or mooring from the marina. We are a community of active sailors and our official season is from late May to early October. The Mid Illini Sail & Power Squadron is a US Power Squadron from District 20. The Mid Illini Sail & Power Squadron was formed in 1975. We are one of the 17 squadrons in Illinois, NW Indiana and SW Wisconsin. A large part of USPS is the educational program. We have a long history of success with our educational activities. Mid Illini earned the Educational Achievement award multiple times. The Midwest Model Shipwrights was formed in 1982 by individuals who had a common interest in model ship building and maritime history. Goals of the club are to discuss and share modeling ideas and concepts while making new friends. Our members today represent all age groups with abilities varying from novice to expert. The Wilmette Harbor Club, located north of Chicago on Lake Michigan, includes a clubhouse with both indoor and outdoor dining, a gas dock, and mooring for several hundred boats.
