- Albatross Yacht Club
Albatross Yacht Club
Albatross Yacht Club was started in 1972 by a group of sailors who docked along South River Rd on the Clinton River. These sailors decided to start a paper club that would allow them to race and cruise together as a club, and enjoy the benefits of yacht club membership without much overhead expenses, and thus lower dues. Whether you are an expert sailor, a beginner or simply curious and want to get in touch with this marvelous sport, Albatross Yacht Club is the place you want to be. Albatross Yacht Club is a group of passionate people who together enjoy the benefits of being part of a recognized club that caters the needs of boaters through a vast choice of organized events that range from sailing races to social events throughout the whole sailing season. America's Boating Club - Birmingham Squadron
America's Boating Club - Birmingham Squadron is in District 9 and is a unit of the United States Power Squadrons®. Our Boating Club originated in Birmingham in 1963 and we proudly continue to serve boaters in Southeast Michigan. If you are a boating enthusiast, or if you want to be, you've come to the right place! USPS is the largest nonprofit organization in the world devoted to boating safety and education, and is composed of people interested in learning and sharing knowledge about boats, both sail and power. Our membership is composed of power boaters and sailors. About two-thirds of our members own boats which are home-ported everywhere from South East and other portions of Michigan to other parts of the country, however, boat ownership is not required for membership. We provide basic and advanced boating education to the general public. Another public service activity is our Vessel Safety Check, in which trained examiners will, at the request of the boat owner, check a boat for required equipment and award a Coast Guard-recognized Vessel Safety Check compliance decal to boats that pass the inspection. Ann Arbor Sail and Power Squadron
Ann Arbor Power Squadron (now Ann Arbor Sail and Power Squadron, 2008) was founded in 1965. Local boaters, some of whom belonged to other Detroit-area power squadrons, felt that USPS® classes should be made available in the Ann Arbor area. With that idea and belief, they petitioned USPS® for permission to form a squadron in Ann Arbor. Charter was granted by the national organization on September 12, 1965, with 31 charter members. Education is an integral part of Power Squadron membership. The educational opportunities that are available provide an invaluable source of knowledge and an unequaled chance to make new friends and acquaintances among your fellow classmates and instructors. Grosse Pointe Sail Club
The Grosse Pointe Sail Club was founded in 1948 when the City of Grosse Pointe Park invited a dozen sailing enthusiasts to establish a sailing club at the city's Windmill Pointe Park. Located at the head of the Detroit River, Windmill Pointe Park and its marina provide an ideal venue for conducting sailboat races. The club's Tuesday evening Sundown Series, begun in 1961, is the longest running open racing competition on the lake, drawing hundreds of sailors every Tuesday night throughout the summer. With its location at the junction of the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair, the Windmill Pointe Park main pier offers spectators an excellent view of both the starts and finishes of the Sundown races and other club sponsored race events. The Grosse Pointe Sail Club has lots to offer to both its members and the sailing community at large. First and foremost is sailboat racing in our Tuesday Night Sundown Series – which happens to be the longest running weeknight series on Lake St. Clair – and our annual DRYA-sanctioned regatta. We can also boast a great social scene with over a dozen events annually including our commodore's ball which kicks off (and sets the tone for) the DRYA ball season in January. If you're not a member already come on out and experience what this long established club has to offer. Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan
