The Mayfield Yacht Club is located in Mayfield, New York on the Great Sacandaga Lake. The club was founded in 1930, the same year this large, 28 mile long lake was created by the Hudson River Regulating District (now Hudson River - Black River Regulating District.) We are a working club, not a marina. We have three scheduled work parties every year, and club members are encouraged to participate. We build and float our own docks, maintain the clubhouse and grounds, and perform most basic repairs needed about the club. We have a number of activities that include all members. We conduct a junior sailing program most every year, have a sailboat racing program for both large and small boat sailors, a women's sailboat race, a "powerboater" breakfast (the best!), and Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day parties. Upon a chance introduction at the Military History Society of Rochester New York in 2015 several like minded individuals, working through the Nautical Research Guild, were able to form our group. We quickly realized we were an enthusiastic collection of ship modelers and researchers interested in the history and preservation of our maritime legacy in the age of sail and more. Our club brings together members from near and far; Rochester NY, Syracuse NY, Buffalo NY, Virginia, Florida and even Lisbon Portugal. We are from all walks of life, experience, endeavors with varied nautical interests making for a very dynamic group. We are 20 boat/yacht clubs with over 2000 members, from the Mid-Hudson River to the Eastern Mohawk River and the Erie Canal; We welcome and serve any kind of motorized, sail, and paddle powered boat traveling through our region; We promote Boater Courtesy, Boater Safety and Boater Goodwill. Our 20 boat clubs sponsor a season full of fun events, from Striped Bass Fishing Derbies to concerts, dances, open houses, entertainment, children’s activities, and BBQs!
