The KNBRD Reddingsbrigades Nederland (Royal Dutch Water Life Saving Association) is the overall organisation of 183 life brigades throughout the Netherlands. Their primary task is prevention; watching bathers and swimmers along the coastline. Their secondary task is to take action as accidents occur with small sailing boats and surfboards. The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) was established in 1824 to offer help and support, free of charge, to seamen in emergencies and employs professionally trained volunteers and modern lifeboats for this purpose. The KNRM is a charity foundation that saves lives at sea in the Netherlands.
