- Kansas Riverkeeper, Friends of the Kaw
Kansas Riverkeeper, Friends of the Kaw
Friends of the Kaw (FOK) serves the Kansas River, known locally as the Kaw. The Kansas River begins at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill Rivers near Junction City. It flows 173 miles to Kansas City where it joins the Missouri River. The Kaw watershed drains almost the entire northern half of Kansas and part of Nebraska and Colorado (53,000 square miles). It is the world's largest prairie based river system. For more than twenty years, our water-focused friends group has been the only grassroots conservation group dedicated to protecting the Kaw. Our members come from rural, urban, and suburban areas and represent canoers, kayakers, fisherfolk, hunters, birdwatchers, and locals who love the river. Lawrence, Kansas

Sierra Club - Kansas Chapter
The Sierra Club's Kansas Chapter is broadly diversified by geography and region, from the urban and suburban areas surrounding Kansas City and Wichita in the eastern part of the state, through the Flint Hills region of central Kansas, and across the High Plains of western Kansas. As such, the Chapter faces a variety of environmental challenges, as well as enjoying many great opportunities for outings, hiking, and viewing wildlife. The Kansas Chapter is vibrant and active, with members engaged in many of the opportunities and activities offered by the Sierra Club, including outings, general meetings, political activism, and a variety of social and educational activities.
