In 2003, a group of interested individuals got together, formed and registered the non-profit Marine Industries Association of St. Lucia (MIASL) Inc. The Association now boasts a membership of seventy. The MIASL has received official recognition from the Government of St. Lucia, and was recently successful in persuading the Ministry of Tourism to prepare a strategic plan for the development of the Yachting Sector, in which the MIASL is expected to play a central role. St. Lucia is the sort of island that travellers to the Caribbean dream about--a small, lush tropical gem that is still relatively unknown. The Saint Lucia Air And Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) was established by an Act of Parliament in 1983, it is responsible for running the island's two principal seaports, Castries and Vieux Fort, and the George FL Charles and Hewanorra International Airports, as well as the smaller points of entry: Soufriere, Marigot and Rodney Bay Marina.

The Soufriere Marine Management Association Inc. is a self-sustained not-for-profit NGO authorized by the Government of St. Lucia to manage both SMMA and CAMMA. Each area is divided into one of five zones: Marine Reserves, Fishing Priority Areas, Multiple Use Areas, Yacht Mooring Areas and Recreational Areas. The Association is mandated to conserve the natural marine environment and ensure sustainable use and development of the Areas particularly within the fishing and tourism sectors.
