Rowing since 1983. Castleconnell Boat Club was founded 30 years ago and is situated in a unique and picturesque location on the banks of the river Shannon in the village of Castleconnell, Co. Limerick. It is only 6 miles from Limerick City and 3 miles from the University of Limerick. We are the envy of many as we can row on nearly 4 km of uninterrupted waters of the river Shannon between the villages of Castleconnell and O’Briens bridge. This section of the river is non-tidal and can be accessed all year round. Castleconnell Boat Club is a relatively young club but we are growing rapidly. We are open to all members both young and old. Our junior rowing program has doubled in size over the last two years and caters for children from 11 to 18 years. Founded in the early 1990s, Killorglin Rowing Club (KRC) is situated on the banks of the river Laune. The river being the venue for our water based training when the tides are right! Our state-of-the-art boat house was completed in 2004 and the excellent facilities are well used for land based training when we can't get on the river. We are the hosts of the Munster Branch Head of the River, held on the beautiful River Laune in Feb/Mar each year. Unlike most rowing clubs in Ireland, our season is on all year round. Founded in 1901, St Michael's Rowing Club is one of Ireland's Premier Rowing Clubs. It caters for oarsmen and oarswomen from Junior 12 to the more experienced “Masters”, some of whom are 60+ years young! During the past three decades it has established itself as one of the major forces in Irish rowing by winning no less than 37 Championships at all grades from Junior to Senior. The long 106 year wait came to an end in 2007 when the Club won the coveted Senior VIII “Big Pot” being the first crew to bring the trophy to Limerick in 80 years. It has had 197 of its members selected for International representation. Members have won 3 World Championships and have rowed at three Olympic Regattas. Unlike certain other successful Irish Rowing clubs, almost all its oarsmen and women are "home-grown" having commenced with the Club as Juniors. University College Cork Rowing Club is one of the oldest and most successful sports clubs in the University beginning life in 1868 on the Marina in Cork as the Queens College Cork Rowing Club. Since 1912 the club has won 21 National Championships in a variety of categories from the Lightweight Men’s Single Scull to the Novice Men’s 8+.
